\nThe Challenge, To Regain the Coveted Paddle.<\/p>\n
Despite a late call to arms, no conscription was required as a healthy number of volunteers (including two flag officers) laid their lives and reputations on the line to face the best the other clubs could muster.<\/p>\n
Before battle commenced, the evening was quite muted with teams from Douglas, Peel, Laxey, Port St Mary and Ramsey claiming their own particular patch of DBYC\u2019s recently enlarged and rather plush club house, but you know how these thing go, a little alcohol, a little bit more, and before you know it…..<\/p>\n
Our first challenge was against Laxey and despite losing 1-2, valuable tactical information about the abilities of the various members was gained, including signs of a mis-spent youth from Vice Commodore Kevin Christian. DBYC then tried to put everybody off by serving up a feast; not just ordinary sandwiches or yard long pasties, but full main course fare, Lasagne, Curry, Salad, Chips, Rice, Nan Bread etc; a delicious full meal! <\/p>\n
With the tide turning after that, wins were gained 2-1 against Douglas and Port St Mary and the final match was against Peel. They had chosen an all-female team, a tactic we countered with an all-male team! Time was marching on and by now return buses had been missed, but with a final flurry of excellent dartspersonship (it was all getting a bit fuzzy by now) the MS&CC pulled of an extraordinary feat, winning the match 3-0.<\/p>\n
With all our matches played, this meant the only team that could catch us was Douglas who also had to beat Peel 3-0. History will show that they fell at the first hurdle and the paddle was ours.
