{"id":958,"date":"2012-08-22T22:49:12","date_gmt":"2012-08-22T21:49:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.msandcc.org\/?p=958"},"modified":"2012-09-11T10:58:15","modified_gmt":"2012-09-11T09:58:15","slug":"ramsey-to-laxey-dinghy-race-results","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.msandcc.org\/?p=958","title":{"rendered":"Ramsey to Laxey Dinghy Race Results"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>At 10.30 on Saturday morning ten dinghies lined up on the beach at Ramsey for a &#8216;Le Mans&#8217; style start of the Manx Sailing &amp; Cruising Club Coastal Race to Laxey.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\n<!--more--><br \/>\nWith lots of west in the wind the fleet set off on a relaxed broad reach towards Maughold Head, much like the Prologue for the Tour de France.\u00a0 Only at Maughold Head with the wind shifting more southerly and a strong spring tide flooding northwards, would the race really begin.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>First past the headland was Phil Hardisty and Donald Edwards (Laser 4000), being able to fly an asymetric spinnaker across Ramsey Bay had given them a good lead.\u00a0 Jason Hyett sailing single-handed in his Laser Vago, spinnaker up, also made good time.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The five Lasers all took the inside line around the headland and suffered in the wind shadow, leaving Mike Pridham the last boat past this point.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The fleet then divided, out to sea for more wind but more foul tide or close in for less wind and less tide.\u00a0 Mike Pridham (Laser) took the inside line and made good progress past Port Mooar and was soon joined by visitor, James Waugh, also in a Laser.\u00a0 They then raced &#8216;tack for tack&#8217; for the rest of the race with James being the first Laser home, one minute ahead of Mike.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>At about Bulgham Bay the boats that took the outside route started to gain on the southerly-flowing ebb tide with Phil and Donald finishing first on the water followed by Jerry Colman and James Penn (505), little more than ten minutes behind.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>After correcting the times on handicap, four of the top five finishers were Lasers, the first being James Waugh, second Mike Pridham, third Simon Pressley, fourth and first two-man boat home was Brian Quayle and Michael Moore in a Kestrel.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>This is the first time for a number of years that all competitors made it to Laxey giving a sense of achievement in sailing along one of the most scenic pieces of our Island&#8217;s coastline.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Thanks must go to Ramsey RNLI for manning the safety boats, a vital role for a race of this type and also to members of Laxey Sailing Club for acting as OOD.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Results<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>1st James Waugh (Laser)<\/p>\n<p>2nd Mike Pridham (Laser)<\/p>\n<p>3rd Simon Pressley (Laser)<\/p>\n<p>4th Brian Quayle\/Michael Moore (Kestrel)<\/p>\n<p>5th Ralph Kee (Laser)<\/p>\n<p>6th Phil Hardisty\/Donald Edwards (Laser 4000)<\/p>\n<p>7th Justin Funnell (Laser)<\/p>\n<p>8th Jerry Colman\/James Penn (505)<\/p>\n<p>9th Helen &amp; Roger Cave (Stratos Keel)<\/p>\n<p>10th Jason Hyett (Laser Vago)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>At 10.30 on Saturday morning ten dinghies lined up on the beach at Ramsey for a &#8216;Le Mans&#8217; style start of the Manx Sailing &amp; Cruising Club Coastal Race to Laxey. &nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":6,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"ngg_post_thumbnail":0},"categories":[10,5],"tags":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.msandcc.org\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/958"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.msandcc.org\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.msandcc.org\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.msandcc.org\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/6"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.msandcc.org\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=958"}],"version-history":[{"count":8,"href":"https:\/\/www.msandcc.org\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/958\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":961,"href":"https:\/\/www.msandcc.org\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/958\/revisions\/961"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.msandcc.org\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=958"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.msandcc.org\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=958"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.msandcc.org\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=958"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
