SAILING INSTRUCTIONS.
1. Rules
The series will be governed by the rules as defined in the Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS), these Sailing Instructions and Isle of Man Water & Sewage Authority (‘the Authority’) Conditions. See Appendix 1.
2. Notices to competitors
Notices to competitors will be displayed on the boat park gate.
3. Signals made ashore
Signal flags ashore will be flown from the mast by the OOD’s hut.
If flag AP is displayed ashore, racing will start not less than 15 minutes after the AP is lowered.
4. Schedule of races
Sunday morning – Race 1 Start 10am
Race 2 Start as soon as possible after Race 1 has finished
5. Racing area
The racing area will be West Baldwin Reservoir. See map Appendix 2, note areas of exclusion.
6. Courses
The course will be displayed on the side of the OOD’s hut. The number refers to the mark, the colour on which side the mark is to be left. Boats should pass through the start/finish line at the beginning of each lap.
7. Classes
All boats shall sail within the same mixed handicap fleet unless otherwise advised.
8. Marks
The start mark is an inflatable buoy, the others numbered cans. Approximate position as map Appendix 2.
9. The Start
Races will be started under rule 26 with the warning signal (ICF Numeral 1) made 5 minutes before the start.
The starting line will be between the mast by the OOD’s hut and large round start mark. A shallow water mark maybe placed near to the bank, this forms no part of the start line.
Boats not starting within 4 minutes after the start signal will be scored DNC
10. Change of position of the next mark
Substitute marks will not be used.
11. The Finish
The finishing line will normally be between the mast by the OOD’s hut displaying an
orange flag and the nearby round start/finishing mark.
12. Penalties
RRS Rules 44.1 and 44.2 will apply (Two turns).
13. Handicap System
The intended duration of each race will be approximately 40 minutes, at the discretion of the OOD.
The Average Lap/Portsmouth Number system will apply.
14. Protests
Boats wishing to protest shall inform the OOD immediately after finishing.
Protests shall be delivered to the OOD within 30 minutes of the finish of the last boat in the last race of the day.
15. Scoring
The low point scoring system will apply.
All races to count.
16. Safety
Boats retiring from a race shall notify the OOD immediately.
17. Disclaimer of Liability
Competitors participate in the race series entirely at their own risk (RRS Rule 4. Decision to Race).
Manx Sailing & Cruising Club, Committee, OOD, rescue crews and Isle of Man Water & Sewage Authority will not accept any liability for material damage, personal injury or death sustained in competition with or prior to, during, or after the racing.
Each participating boat shall be insured with valid third party liability insurance with the minimum of cover £2million.
