What a fantastic day at the MS&CC Easter Regatta! It’s traditionally scheduled for Easter Saturday (April 4th this year) and also traditionally delayed due to weather as occurred this year due to the appearance of Storm Dave. The postponed event took place on Sunday 19th April in gorgeous sunshine and a light to moderate (but shifty) North Westerly breeze so with Ramsey Bay looking at its best. The Regatta consisted of three races held in succession with no discards so every position counted and any slip-ups could be costly.

19 teams took part in the event with a strong squad from the Isle of Man Yacht Club presenting a powerful challenge. Your correspondent duly entered the Finn dinghy but was disappointed to find that the mice in the garage had been living in his best sail and seemed to have found the reinforced mylar to their taste so I had to swap it for an old one thereby obtaining an early excuse for a rather lacklustre performance. Unfortunately our original Easter Regatta date clashed with Storm ‘Dave’ so we’ve had to postpone the event, our new date is now Sunday 19 April.

This is a One Day Event with three races to be held “back to back”, with racing starting at 11.00 and expected to be fully completed at 14:30 – IOM Copiers Easter Regatta 2026-Sailing Instructions.

We hope to see as many competitors as possible in Ramsey Bay on Sunday 19 April to open our season with the IOM Copiers ‘Easter’ Regatta.

There will be a Prize Presentation directly afterwards which will be followed by a complimentary Regatta Tea for all competitors, race officials, family, friends and social members.

As this event is part of the ‘Traveller Series’ it’s hoped that this Regatta will be fully supported. Competitors of all ages and capabilities are welcome! Please contact Ralph Kee, Dinghy Captain on 490704 or helen.j.kee@gmail.com for further details or check out our Facebook page.

Please join us at the MS&CC Clubhouse on Saturday 11 April for a talk by our Vice Commodore James Penn. An evening that conjures up all sorts of possibilities from sea monsters to shipwrecks and daring do’s!! Please book your place at this link.

Tom Watterson (RS Aero 7) sailed just well enough to take the March Series on Sunday from Dave Batchelor (Supernova). Both finished on 11 points after discards but Watterson had 3 first places against Batchelor’s 1 so countback gave it to Tom. Next down the leader board came Ralph Kee (Laser standard), Joe and Eric Whitelegg (Enterprise) and Jimmy Cope (Tera PR) with a win each, showing quite a spread amongst the fleet’s top performers by age, boat type and in the wide variety of conditions we endured.  Click here for the full report – Watling Streetworks Winter Series – 22 March 2026

Back from the RYA Boat Show in Farnborough, your correspondent was looking forward to a pleasant sail around Injebreck to refresh his love of the sport but after launching came a warning that conditions on the lake were a bit much for the seniors with the big rigs. He discreetly retired together with junior Jake Walker (RS Tera) while Dad James (Streaker) and 6 others decided to tough it out despite the gusts and the fairly frequent capsizes that Jake and I observed from the bank.

It was mostly time spent righting capsized boats that controlled the results so we now have within the fleet some well-practiced capsize recovery experts as well as more useful experience of taking full advantage of the gusts by maintaining a strong grip on the tiller, leaning out in the appropriate direction and trimming the boat with the bow up to encourage planing. Bourne Plaice Winter Series – 15 February 2015

Report by Andrew Dean A great turn-out of 16 dinghies contested races 5 and 6 of the February 2015 Bourne Plaice Winter Series organised by the Manx Sailing and Cruising Club at West Baldwin reservoir.  The all-important wind conditions were almost perfect by the mediocre standards of our little hill-surrounded lake.  The gusty, moderate wind…

Bourne Plaice Winter Series – 8 February 2015

16 boats competed on a beautiful but quite windy Sunday morning at Injebreck in the second weekend of the February dinghy racing series sponsored by Bourne Plaice. There was a good deal more wind than many had expected with light and failing  winds forecast and indeed present certainly in Ramsey Bay and in other parts…

Bourne Plaice Winter Series – 1 February 2015

There was a much better morning’s racing in the Bourne Plaice Winter Series on Baldwin reservoir than the forecast predicted.  The chilly northerly wind blowing down the valley was offset by the bright sunshine, extra clothing and the mantra ‘ must not fall in’. Please follow this link for the full write-up – Bourne Plaice Winter…

Bourne Plaice Winter Series – 25 January 2015

There was much improved weather conditions for sailors competing in this Sunday’s Bourne Plaice Winter Series on West Baldwin reservoir.  With a fine south westerly wind blowing up the lake as opposed to the bitter northerly blowing down the lake the previous week, competitors were more able to concentrate on speed and tactics rather than…

Bourne Plaice Winter Series – 18 January 2015

Write-up courtesy of Andrew Dean The mercury never rose above 3c but the brilliant weather produced a northerly breeze which accelerated down the valley to provide exciting and frustrating conditions, with a course set to use most of its area.  Click here for the full write-up – Bourne Plaice Winter Series – 18 January 2015

Bourne Plaice Winter Series – 11 January 2015

Thanks to Jerry Colman for this weeks write-up. Fifteen boats competed on a very windy Sunday morning at Injebreck reservoir in the second weekend of the January dinghy racing series sponsored by Bourne Plaice. Covers were removed somewhat gingerly and there were some hesitations when it came to hoisting sails as even though the lake…

Bourne Plaice Winter Series – 4 January 2015

Nothing new about the lack of wind for the first races of the new year for the Bourne Plaice Winter Series on West Baldwin reservoir, if anything, possibly even less than for the last races of last year. Please click here for the full write-up – Bourne Plaice Winter Series – 4 January 2015

Bourne Plaice Winter Series – 28 December 2014

The final round of the 2014 Bourne Plaice Winter Series was sailed on West Baldwin Reservoir in similar conditions to the Frostbite Regatta on Boxing Day – very little wind. According to folklore, ‘the wind will come when the sun rises above the mountain, it did, but calling it a breeze would perhaps be overstating it.…

Frostbite Regatta – Boxing Day

Thanks to Jerry Colman for this write-up. 16 boats competed for the Stanley Quayle Trophy awarded to the winner of the Manx Sailing & Cruising Club’s traditional Frostbite Regatta held on Boxing Day at Injebreck Reservoir. The format was a Pursuit Race with individual boat start times determined from their handicaps so that all should…

Bourne Plaice Winter Series – 21 December 2014

The latest round of the Bourne Plaice Winter Series was held in possibly the windiest conditions so far this series on Sunday, but West Baldwin reservoir was slightly sheltered from the full gale blowing over the rest of the island.  Please click here for the full report – Bourne Plaice Winter Series – 21 December 2014
