What a fantastic day at the MS&CC Easter Regatta! It’s traditionally scheduled for Easter Saturday (April 4th this year) and also traditionally delayed due to weather as occurred this year due to the appearance of Storm Dave. The postponed event took place on Sunday 19th April in gorgeous sunshine and a light to moderate (but shifty) North Westerly breeze so with Ramsey Bay looking at its best. The Regatta consisted of three races held in succession with no discards so every position counted and any slip-ups could be costly.

19 teams took part in the event with a strong squad from the Isle of Man Yacht Club presenting a powerful challenge. Your correspondent duly entered the Finn dinghy but was disappointed to find that the mice in the garage had been living in his best sail and seemed to have found the reinforced mylar to their taste so I had to swap it for an old one thereby obtaining an early excuse for a rather lacklustre performance. Click her for the full report- IOM Copiers Easter Regatta.

Unfortunately our original Easter Regatta date clashed with Storm ‘Dave’ so we’ve had to postpone the event, our new date is now Sunday 19 April.

This is a One Day Event with three races to be held “back to back”, with racing starting at 11.00 and expected to be fully completed at 14:30 – IOM Copiers Easter Regatta 2026-Sailing Instructions.

We hope to see as many competitors as possible in Ramsey Bay on Sunday 19 April to open our season with the IOM Copiers ‘Easter’ Regatta.

There will be a Prize Presentation directly afterwards which will be followed by a complimentary Regatta Tea for all competitors, race officials, family, friends and social members.

As this event is part of the ‘Traveller Series’ it’s hoped that this Regatta will be fully supported. Competitors of all ages and capabilities are welcome! Please contact Ralph Kee, Dinghy Captain on 490704 or helen.j.kee@gmail.com for further details or check out our Facebook page.

Please join us at the MS&CC Clubhouse on Saturday 11 April for a talk by our Vice Commodore James Penn. An evening that conjures up all sorts of possibilities from sea monsters to shipwrecks and daring do’s!! Please book your place at this link.

Tom Watterson (RS Aero 7) sailed just well enough to take the March Series on Sunday from Dave Batchelor (Supernova). Both finished on 11 points after discards but Watterson had 3 first places against Batchelor’s 1 so countback gave it to Tom. Next down the leader board came Ralph Kee (Laser standard), Joe and Eric Whitelegg (Enterprise) and Jimmy Cope (Tera PR) with a win each, showing quite a spread amongst the fleet’s top performers by age, boat type and in the wide variety of conditions we endured.  Click here for the full report – Watling Streetworks Winter Series – 22 March 2026

Back from the RYA Boat Show in Farnborough, your correspondent was looking forward to a pleasant sail around Injebreck to refresh his love of the sport but after launching came a warning that conditions on the lake were a bit much for the seniors with the big rigs. He discreetly retired together with junior Jake Walker (RS Tera) while Dad James (Streaker) and 6 others decided to tough it out despite the gusts and the fairly frequent capsizes that Jake and I observed from the bank.

It was mostly time spent righting capsized boats that controlled the results so we now have within the fleet some well-practiced capsize recovery experts as well as more useful experience of taking full advantage of the gusts by maintaining a strong grip on the tiller, leaning out in the appropriate direction and trimming the boat with the bow up to encourage planing. Watling Streetworks Winter Series – 26 January 2020

The final two races of the January Watling Streetworks Dinghy Series took place on West Baldwin Reservoir on Sunday morning. Unlike the previous weeks cancellation due to a complete lack of wind, competitors arriving early were met with conditions that were marginal at best, strong, gusty wind and torrential rain.  However, the forecast was for…

Watling Streetworks Winter Series – 12 January 2020

Report by Andrew Dean A relative window in the weather on Sunday gave pleasant but tricky racing for the Watling Streetworks Dinghy Series at West Baldwin reservoir.  The wind direction was due west, resulting in a reduction from the open-sea strong winds, but Colden Hill to the west led to very gusty conditions.  A great…

Watling Streetworks Winter Series – 5 January 2020

Sunday morning dinghy racing on Baldwin Reservoir sponsored by Watling Streetworks brought us a New year, new series and thirteen competitors made for a lively although remarkably quiet start line (vocally).  Full report here – Watling Streetworks Winter Series – 5 January 2020

Watling Streetworks Winter Series – 29 December 2019

Write-up by Keith Poole Maybe it was over indulgence of mince pies or too much festive cheer, surely it wasn’t the howling gale that put people off, but it just goes to prove that you never can tell what’s going on at Injebreck.  For the most part there was a reasonable Force 3 gusting 4,…

Frostbite Regatta – 26 December 2019

NO PHOTO’S TAKEN DUE TO THE ATROCIOUS WEATHER CONDITIONS!! The final Sailing Regatta of the 2019 season, the Boxing Day Frostbite Regatta, sponsored by Watling Streetworks took place on West Baldwin reservoir.  The single race for the S E Quayle Cup was of the Pursuit type, slow boats away first, faster boats later, depending on…

Watling Streetworks Winter Series – 15 December 2019

Following last weeks cancellation of dinghy racing, the Watling Streetworks Winter Series continued this Sunday morning on West Baldwin reservoir. Unlike the howling gale of the previous week, conditions were about as good as it gets. Bright sunshine and a south westerly breeze blowing mostly up the valley, gentle at first but forecast to steadily…

Watling Streetworks Winter Series – 1 December 2019

Report by Andrew Dean There are two essentials for the sport of dinghy racing: water and wind.  On a glorious, cold Sunday morning the very full West Baldwin reservoir was calm, reflecting a total lack of wind.  Some went home, but soon ripples were observed from a light Northerly wind, so hasty rigging ensued by…

Watling Streetworks Winter Series – 24 November 2019

The last two races of the November Watling Streetworks Dinghy Series was sailed on West Baldwin reservoir on Sunday morning.  Thanks to the weather over the last month there has been racing every weekend so the competitors will be able to discard their worst two results.  Click here for the full report – Watling Streetworks Winter…

Watling Streetworks Winter Series – 17 November 2019

Write-up by Jerry Colman A 10 boat fleet turned out on Sunday morning for the latest round of the Watling Streetworks Dinghy Series on West Baldwin reservoir.  The fabulous sunshine was complemented with a gentle northerly breeze interspersed with the odd shift blowing down the valley, about as good as it gets. Anticipating a very…
