Dinghy Reports
Unfortunately the weather scuppered both days, Saturday (too much wind) and Sunday (no wind) so we’ve re-scheduled in the hope we have more luck!
The MYA IOM Dinghy Championships 2026 will now take place in Ramsey Bay on Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th September hosted by the MS&CC. The first three races on Saturday will have a start time of 10.00 and the concluding races on Sunday will start at 10.30.

There was a great turnout of 13 competitors to take part in the race to Laxey.
The sailing conditions were excellent for a change, the wind wasn’t on the nose which always helps!
The first boats crossed the line in Laxey Bay in just under 2 hours with the top 3 only separated by 2 minutes.
Junior Lettie Hyett took line honours, successfully defending her crown from last year, with Joe and Eric Whitelegg in second and Anthony Ellis in third.
Thanks to Keith Poole for officer of the day, hopefully he had time for an ice cream while waiting for the boats to arrive. Thanks also to the patrol boat crews who make the event possible. For more photos visit the MS&CC Facebook page.
Laxey Regatta took place the following day which started with a promising light breeze of 5 knots increasing at times by a few knots. Closer to launch time it had eased back which disheartened some who elected not to venture out to the start line.
Eight optimistic crew gathered in the starting area, despite the wind having dropped, hovering around 3 knots. Race Officer Keith Poole (on loan from the MS&CC) chatted to a number of the competitors and it was decided to go ahead. Race 1 was light and for the most part steady with Ffinlo Wright 1st, Simon Pressly 2nd with a dead heat between Keith Holden and Bob Love in 3rd. Race 2 started promisingly but the voids in the wind were approaching quickly and soon put a dampener on things so it was cut short after the first lap, similar results with Ffinlo 1st, Simon 2nd and Keith 3rd.

The Ramsey to Laxey dinghy race is a challenge not for the faint hearted! The race for the Green Cup is a coastal race with spectacular scenery if you have time to look!
Hosted by MS&CC the Le Mans type beach start is at 12:00 on Saturday 1 August. Starting on Ramsey Beach by the Clubhouse, feet to be on terraferma until start signal, start sequence is 3,2, start. Look out for the finish mark in Laxey Bay. Please see the Sailing instructions for this event.

Manx Sailing & Cruising Club are holding their Dinghy Regatta on Saturday 4 July, start time 13.00 and Sunday 5 July, start time 13.30. Sailing instructions for the event can be found at this link – MS&CC Regatta 2026 – Sailing Instructions.
The sailing on Sunday will be followed by a Prizegiving and Regatta Tea for all competitors and volunteers at around 4pm.

What a fantastic day at the MS&CC Easter Regatta! It’s traditionally scheduled for Easter Saturday (April 4th this year) and also traditionally delayed due to weather as occurred this year due to the appearance of Storm Dave. The postponed event took place on Sunday 19th April in gorgeous sunshine and a light to moderate (but shifty) North Westerly breeze so with Ramsey Bay looking at its best. The Regatta consisted of three races held in succession with no discards so every position counted and any slip-ups could be costly.
19 teams took part in the event with a strong squad from the Isle of Man Yacht Club presenting a powerful challenge. Your correspondent duly entered the Finn dinghy but was disappointed to find that the mice in the garage had been living in his best sail and seemed to have found the reinforced mylar to their taste so I had to swap it for an old one thereby obtaining an early excuse for a rather lacklustre performance.
