Injebreck Dinghy Racing – 4 March 2012
This week at West Baldwin reservoir there was even more wind than last week and for the first time this year blowing down the valley anywhere between Force 2 and Force 4 in the gusts.
For Race 1 the OOD set a course using the full lake and out of the 16 starters it was Dave and Emily Batchelor (RS 200) that got clear to finish first on the water with some impressive, if brief planing action in the gusts. Simon Pressley (Laser) crossed the line in second followed by the Whitelegg brothers (Enterprise).
With plenty of wind available boats with small sails can never be ruled out and after handicapping it was junior Ffinlo Wight (Tera) in first, Dave & Emily Batchelor second and Simon Pressley third, next junior and third generation ‘Injebrecker’ was Michael Moore (Laser 4.7) in sixth place.
On a slightly reduced course for Race 2 it was Brian Quayle sailing a Laser (farmyard find) who led the way for the first lap, eventually being reeled in by Simon Pressley, Ralph Kee (Laser) and the Whitelegg brothers. After handicapping, Simon first, Whiteleggs second, Ralph third and first and second generation ‘Injebreckers’ Ted and Keith Holden in fourth place.
Simon Pressley is now heading out to Brisbane to join the rest of the Manx contingent at the Laser World Masters Regatta, good luck to them all!
Many thanks to the OOD and safety boat crew.
