After two Sundays with little wind and one with no wind at all this month, it was a relief to arrive at West Baldwin to find there was a good breeze blowing up the lake from the dam, force two, maybe three in the gusts.

For Race 1 the OOD set a course that used the whole of the lake and of the 16 starters, four were juniors, 3 Tera’s and a Topper. First to finish the race was Dave and Emily Batchelor (RS 200), closely followed by another RS 200, four Lasers and an OK, all within 4 minutes. After handicapping it was junior newcomer to the lake, Greg Kelly (Tera) who won by 1 ½ minutes from Simon Pressley (Laser) in second, Angus Jolly (Laser) third and Dave Batchelor in fourth.

The course for Race 2 was shortened, leaving out the tricky area in the lea of the dam and with a slight increase in the wind allowed the faster boats to complete four laps. For this race the three Lasers of Angus, Simon and Ralph Kee led on the water and after handicapping, but only just. Greg Kelly was in fourth place by only 1 second!

Our survey of the lake bottom continues, findings this week around Mark 6 include mud (Jason), weed (Dave) and rocks (Simon).

Many thanks to the OOD and safety boat crew.
